FAQ

How long do acrylic nails last? (also see Q: My acrylics never seem to last more than a few days. Why?)
Acrylic nails can last upto 2 weeks however depending on your lifestyle they will need maintenance after about 6 days. If you smoke, type/text alot, use harmful chemicals like bleach, have your hands in water for long periods of time, even if you are on medication can drastically change  the time scale of how long your nails are on.

Are acrylic nails harmful to your real nails if you wear them all the time?
Some people who wear acrylic nails may notice a slight discoloration or softening of their natural nails. But a more serious nail problem resulting from acrylic nails is infection.
Sometimes a gap develops between the acrylic nail and the natural nail. If the acrylic nail is bumped or knocked, it may separate from the natural nail. This gap is a haven for bacteria and fungus. If such an infection occurs, the natural nail may become thickened and discoloured.
Rarely, a person may have an allergic reaction (contact dermatitis) to components of acrylic nails or the adhesives used to apply them. This usually results in some redness and peeling of the skin around the nail. If peeling is excessive or persists take the nails off as soon as you can and go see a doctor if the symptoms persist (having a allergic reaction to the chemicals is not the technicians fault so don't start pointing fingers! controlled and safe chemicals are used to avoid such reactions but sometimes allergic reactions are inevitable but rare.)

Do nail extensions come off ?
If properly cared for your Extensions should not just fall off. Biting and picking are the most common causes of lifting which can damage the natural nail.
Once lifting has occurred it can be made worse by certain hand creams and oils, in particular those containing lanolin, mineral oil or paraffin. These products are not absorbed by the skin but remain on the surface to penetrate any gaps that develop between the natural nail and the acrylic.

Do nail extensions break?
Yes. They are designed to break under impact to protect the natural nail. A broken enhancement can be repaired easily.

How to care for Acrylic nail extensions ?
In exchange for having consistently beautiful nails you will get to know us quite well! come see us about every 2 weeks at the most if you plan to have the acrylics for some time
You must also take care to protect your nails from damage or breakage, be more careful now you have had nails applied.

Can i paint them?
Yes. but use a clear base coat first to avoid staining and discoloration of the acrylic.

My acrylics never seem to last more than a few days. Why?
One reason is your nails may not be suitable for the acrylic nail tips we use. Check to see if you have flat nails. If you have noticed nail tips are curved, this is because most natural nails are. If your nails are flat then the curved tip is being pressed down causing pressure and eventually they will pop back off to bend back into shape.
Please don't blame your nail technician if this happens, it is not her fault the nail tips used are curved and your nails a flat.Try a different technique such as acrylic nail sculpting or gel nails (i am currently looking into doing these too) Even ask for tips that have no wells, your technician will know what you are talking about.

My Acrylics are discolouring
Are you on any medication? Some medication can alter the oils in your body that in turn are expressed through your nail (natural oils are always present on any nails, some more than others) when the oils mix with the acrylic it can send the acrylics a funny colour, mainly yellow and really light orange.
Are you painting your nails?
Painting your nails without putting on a base coat first can stain the acrylics, always put a base coat on first
