Looking after your acrylics.
It is inevitable that your acrylics will come off within a few weeks but looking after them and keeping them looking fresh will benefit you and your nails!
Here are a few tips and guidelines for helping them look good!
Sounds daft but wear rubber gloves when washing up!
If you can avoid it try and
avoid contact with water for a longer period of time. Otherwise the
water may seep through the miniscule scratches caused by us filling and buffing etc (can't be seen with the human eye) and cause infection. Sometimes a space between the natural nail and acrylic might build up if it is knocked causing bacteria and fungus to take hold (dark, warm and wet). So avoid this wear the rubber gloves! :D
Keep those cuticles healthy
You can keep using
cuticle oil around your cuticles as it will re nourish/re hydrate
and keep them healthy once acrylics have been applied
Do not pull off your acrylics!
you can get acetone from any good salon, even use acetone nail polish!
(just keep your nail tips submerged in the liquid...after cutting down
the acrylics as short as you can get them.
if i have some spare i will give it to you or you can come to me to have your tips removed.
Infilling
I will only Infill a few times then suggest a break from acrylics as
your nails become weaker with all the filing and monomer and poylmer put
on your nails....its for the health of your nails!
chemicals that can cause lifting
mineral oil or lanolin products which are found in makeup, creams/lotions. Avoid these products if possible!
here are a few products that can include these substances:
lip balms, hair gels, bleaching/colouring products for hair, skin moisturisers, shampoos. (there are tonnes more if you want the full list please get in touch!)
Here are a few more tips that may benefit you and your nails, they may sound daft but they work!
(Some are in more detail above)
:) Learn to do things with the pads of your fingers rather than your
fingertips and nails. the more you tap with your nail the more likely you will loosen the acrylic and the nail will pop off!
:) Never do anything that would put upwards pressure on the tips of your nails.
:)It generally takes a day of two to become accustomed to longer nails.
:) Don't wear your nails too long, the length of your nails should suit your lifestyle.
:)If you want to apply nail varnish, use a clear base coat first, this will prevent the nails from becoming stained or yellowing
:) when removing nail polish only use acetone free nail varnish
:) if you want your nails shorter do not cut or clip them, do not use a metal file either! These tend to shatter and crack the acrylic
:) If you break a nail or it begins to lift, you should glue it until your next appointment (or file it where its lifting so you do not catch it), BUT be sure that your nails are DRY, before you glue. Your nails should be out of water for at least one hour before you glue your nails, to insure that they are dry. Extreme caution must be taken so you do not to trap moisture between your nail and the lifting acrylic coating.
:)If you decide you want to remove the artificial nails, please, do not chew them off. This can cause significant damage to your nail bed. Give me a shout.
